The Omega Quadrant series began as a typical alpha-beta-omega omegaverse series back in 2018, but along the way, new variants have emerged. Part of the universe's backstory is that omega births have been in freefall, and as we all know, nature finds a way. Life will continue, one way or another.
So what are all these new classes? Read on...
**SPOILER ALERT**
If you haven't read all of the Palatinate books up to this point, the following might spoil some of those stories (Through OQ 4, Western Provinces, 4, and Omegawood, 2)
The Original Classes
Just to clarify a few things about my ABOs in this universe, I'm going to cover them quickly. This info only pertains to my characters in the OQ/Palatinate universe. All of my characters are men, as there are no women in this universe (yes, I was dumb to write it that way, I'm aware)
Omegas
The smaller, weaker, breedable men. They're capable of getting pregnant by an alpha when in heat. They go into heat every full moon, typically starting around their late teens and slowing in their 40s-50s. Historically, omegas have been subjugated by many provinces. In the past, they were easily capable of being breed often and having multiple children, but as the decline continues, omegas are struggling with infertility more and more—and having fewer children.
They tend to be shorter (between 5'7" and 5'11", but there are always outliers), a bit femme, and slim/lightly muscled.
Alphas
The biggest, strongest, most powerful men. They control pretty much everything in most provinces. When near an omega in heat, they will go into rut. They have a knotted penis, locking them with an omega in heat. They tend to be exceedingly tall, 6'5" to 7'.
The strongest alphas have a particular "bark" - a tone to their voice that can compel their omega, typically only used in heated moments, often when their omega's life is in danger. This doesn't work with all alpha-omega mates, and sometimes it's weaker, enough that an omega can fight the compulsion.
"Bull" Alphas
A subset of alphas I've mentioned that are bigger and larger than smaller alphas. Tend to be very muscular and aggressive.... and not always the brightest.
Betas
The "worker bees" of society, keeping things in order while alphas and omegas are cum dumping, er, I mean, in heat/rut. They can't reproduce. They vary in size, some as small as omegas, others as large smaller alphas.
The New Classes
Latent Omegas
A man who presented as a beta, but later in life develops into an omega, typically after coming into contact (scent or touch) with his alpha. Can be any age.
(Example - Brett in OQ 4)
Hybrids
A man who presented as either alpha or omega, and later showing signs of the opposite class in conjunction. It could be an omega who later displays alpha traits along with his omega ones or an alpha who suddenly goes into heat and can get pregnant. Researchers believe this is a mutation brought on by the lower omega birthrate.
Latent Alphas
A man who presented as a beta, but later in life develops into an alpha, typically after coming into contact with his omega. Can be any age. These are much rarer than latent omegas.
(Example - Holden in Omegawood, 2)
Dominant Alphas
Dominants were commonplace centuries ago, but they disappeared and no one really knows why. They're now returning and scientists theorize it has something to do with the lower omega births—because dominant alphas can impregnate ANY class, even alphas.
They're larger and stronger than typical alphas, usually well over 7'. They're extremely intelligent but struggle with aggression.
The strongest of the dominants have an extremely powerful "alpha bark" — a tone where they can compel any class but their own.
Researchers are still determining all the traits dominants have because most are only in their teens and early twenties at the time of OQ 5. But there have been signs of their return in some alphas in their thirties and forties, with mild traits appearing in them.
(Older example - Emerson in Western Provinces, 4)
XXX Alphas
You'll need to read Tulla's book (OQ 5) to read about this new class of alphas.
